Isle of Wight

England

The diamond of England’s south coast

The Isle of Wight is a classic British holiday destination thanks to its unspoilt landscapes, chalky cliffs, endless beaches and relaxed pace of life. Gloriously green, it’s known as the ‘Garden Isle’, and spectacular coastal views can be discovered at almost every turn: from the sharp stacks of the Needles to the curved bays and coves. Almost half the island’s coastline is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, whilst its villages bustle with quaint thatched cottages and scenic harbours.

Attractions:

The Garlic Farm

This unique attraction has been a family-run business on the Isle of Wight for over 40 years. Explore the farm and enjoy its beautiful surroundings, whilst indulging your senses with a taste experience featuring many of the farm’s products.

Osborne House

The beloved family home of Queen Victoria & Prince Albert, this was their ‘palace by the sea’. Built in an Italianate style reminiscent of the Bay of Naples, this ornate pastel house has stunning views and glorious grounds, through which walkways weave down to Queen Victoria’s beach. Inside, the rooms are decadently decorated – don’t miss the ornate Durbar Room.

Isle of Wight Steam Railway

This beautifully restored heritage railway puffs its way through over 5 miles of unspoilt countryside. The vintage steam locomotives and pristine Victorian and Edwardian carriages shunt into idyllic rural stations on this unforgettable journey to a bygone era.

The Model Village, Godshill

This retro attraction, evocative of the 1950s, presents scale models of Shanklin and Godshill villages as they were in the 1920s. Set in two acres of landscaped RHS gardens, this nostalgic British attraction is a joy to explore thanks to its incredible attention to detail.

Shanklin

Shanklin has all the delights of a traditional British seaside town. The old village area is quaint with thatched cottages and tea rooms, and the golden beach is lined with colourful huts backed by towering sandstone cliffs. A stroll down Shanklin’s esplanade is the perfect way to take in this charming resort, from the glorious hanging baskets of Rylstone Gardens to the trickling waters of the verdant gorge, Shanklin Chine.

Alternatives

Ventnor Botanic Garden

This unrivalled collection of exotic and subtropical plant life is unique in Britain, thanks to its warm microclimate. Sheltered by the Isle of Wight’s ‘Undercliff’, the garden is not subject to cold winds or frosts, and the garden’s various terraces display an immersive collection of rare flora from around the globe.

Carisbrooke Castle

The site of a fortress for over 1,000 years, Carisbrooke Castle has a fascinating history. Famous as the royal prison to Charles I, and for the donkeys which work its 16th century treadwheel, this romantic castle has panoramic views of the Isle from its battlements, and a lovely Edwardian-style garden.
